DUTY ON HARVESTING MACHINERY. (Published by Arrangement.) It has come to our knowledge that an American company operating in New Zealand has advised its travellers and agents that, owing to the increased duty on farm machinery, the price of implements may be increased, and consequently farmers are urged to book their requirements, including harvesting machinery, at present prices. ,We should like it to be known that there is no duty on harvesting machinery, either English or foreign, and the recent alteration to tariff does not affect the position of other than topdressers, drills, disc harrows, and ploughs. In spite of the increased rate of exchange, Bamford’s British harvesting machinery will not be increased in price during the coming season. We urge New Zealanders to remember that practically their only market is Great Britain. America has placed, and Canada is placing, prohibitive duties on our exports. Surely every farmer realises that in buying foreign machinery in place of British he is assisting in reducing the spending power of the people at Home, and consequently delaying the recovery of the market prices for our products. It is up to us to help the Mother Country to buy our goods by purchasing exclusively English-made goods when obtainable. The withdrawal of New Zealand business will no doubt assist in forcing those foreign countries which to-day close their doors to our products to receive our products at favourable rates. A. M. BISLEY & CO., Ward Street. Hamilton. 9th August, 1930.
