ART UNION PERMITS
"GROWING DISSATISFACTION." (By Telegraph. Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Objection to the Government's lavish distribution of art union permits was expressed in a notice of a question given by the Hon. W. Downie Stewart (Reform —Dunedin West) to the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle, in the House of Representatives to-day. Mr Stewart asked the Minister whether he was aware of the growing dissatisfaction with regard to the apparently wholesale issue of so-called art union permits in a manner contray to the spirit and intention of the legislation, and whether any policy had been laid down by Cabinet in connection therewith. Mr Stewart also moved for a return showing (1) how many permits for art unions, other than ordinary bazaars, had been issued since the present Ministry tok office; (2) the total amount offered as prizes; (3) the names of the promoting clubs; (4) the expenses in connection with the art unions.
