THEFT OF CLOTHING

DESTITUTE MAN'S LAPSE

(By Telegraph. Press Association.) HAMILTON, Wednesday. The theft of a parcel of boy's clothing, valued at 30s, the property |of Vincent William Venimore, was admitted by William Cumberland Green in the Hamilton Magistrate's Court to-day. Senior Sergeant Sweeney said accused lost a parcel at the Frankton railway station, and when he inquired about it he was handed a parcel addressed to Mr Venimore, which he said was his. He took the parcel home and used the clothing. The accused, said the senior sergeant, was very ill indeed, and had been destitute and out of work. He had a wife and three children dependent on him.

The magistrate, Mr Wyvern Wilson, referred to the prevarication accused had displayed in the case. He was inclined to send him to prison, but in view of his circumstances would admit him to probation for two years.
