THE BOWLERS' ASPIRATIONS.

Sir, —While I am not concerned with the Bowling Club's dispute with the Borough Council over tenure of their playing green, I do take exception to your published report of Mr McCarter's remarks when deputatiohising the Council. You report him as saying that the presence of the bowlers in the park tended to keep that domain clear of undesirables. I would ask: How? Do they act as police officers? Or is their mere presence sufficient to cause any potential evildoer to give the park a wide berth ? Perhaps such an influential body as the Bowling Club will prevent " canoodling " in the park—l hope they don't try it ! Also, can they, if they get a leajse, stop a man drinking a bottle of beer there? That would be quite unfair, too. If the bowlers want to police the grounds they should prevent drinking in their own premises. Ido like sportsmen* to be sports; but these chaps seem to want their own way over-much.—l am, etc., T.C.
