DOMINION POLITICS.

Sir, —Your correspondent, " Onlooker," betravs deplorable ignorance in his remarks anent the United party, per medium of his letter in Saturday's issue. Professing to be wide awake to the political developments in New Zealand, he rambles at great length, without producing material results. He fails to see the genesis of the United party, yet prides himself with closely following events, though his observations belie his claim to be an intelligent " Onlooker." Had he followed the course of events with that perspicacity which he claims to possess he would have known that the Nationalists a long time ago sank their identity in thfe United party, led by Mr G. Forbes; that the Liberals had done likewise, vide Mr Veitch's declaration at Wanganui; and that Sir Joseph Ward had ; dafolared himself wholeheartedly with any organisation, apart from Labour, which would result i" a new Government being installed in office. There has bean no lack of frankness; the tour of the Dominion by the party organiser, Mr Davey, amply proves that. In addition, there have been announced the names of the first .batch of candidates to carry the party's banner. Quite cautiously, your correspondent does not touch on local politics, " because conditions are so involved at present." How? The issue is a simple one in Waitomo. Mr J. C. Rolleston, the sitting Reform member, is to seek re-election, and is to be opposed by Mr W. J. Broadfoot, the nominee of the United party. In Waitomo, then, the electors have a straight-out choice —Government or anti-Government. Methinks that the electors, remembering the grave injustice inflicted on the primary producers last year by Reform's excursion into the socialistic fields of dairy produce control, will give Mr Broadfoot a particularly good hearing in his endeavours to'bring about a change of Government. —I am, etc., COCKIE.
