FIRE NEAR PIRONGIA
FARMHOUSE TOTALLY DESTROYED. Early on Saturday afternoon last the seven-roomed house on Messrs Collins and Downes’ farm on the Te Awamutu-Pirongia road, about seven miles from Pirongia, was discovered by neighbours and passers-by to be ablaze. Investigation showed there was noboby at home and when assistance arrived it was too late to save any of the contents. It appears that the occupier, Mr W. H. Morris, and his sons had left the place about half-an-hour before to visit Te Awamutu. Mrs Morris and other members of the family were away on holiday. Mr Morris said there had been a fire in the range during the eai’iv part of the day, and when he left it appeared to be almost out. There was no indication of trouble arising from _ that quarter. He could give no opinion as to the cause of the outbreak. The building and its contents were a total loss, and as the insurances were £750 on the building and £IOO on the furniture, both the owners and occupiers are considerable losers.
