A meeting of dairymen is being held in Te Awamutu to-day to have the merits of the rural intermediate credits scheme explained to them. The appointment of Mr A. H. Cockayne, director of the fields division of the Department of Agriculture, to direct the seed and plant research station of Massey Agricultural College, is announced. A deputation from the Cambridge Rugby Union—Messrs Rouse (Kai-i paki) and Boulton (secretary)—is to wait upon the Waipa Rugby Union on Monday evening to request permission for some Ohaupo players to play for the Kaipaki club, which is affiliated to the Cambridge Union. A small Waiau school girl got into an unpleasant predicament one morning reecntly. She was waiting on the side of the road for her usual lift to school, and filled in the time by crawling into an empty cream can. Once in, however, she found it quite impossible to get out, and the most forcible efforts of two or three men were unavailing to extricate her. The question of release was finally solved by means of a cold chisel and a hammer, but the child had to spend nearly two hours in the can before being freed.
