WORK OF THE MONTH

IN WAIPA COUNTY. ENGINEER'S REPORT. The following report of work done since last meeting was presented by Mr J. W. Civil (county engineer) at last Monday's meeting of the Waipa County Council: — KAIPAKI RIDING. Tisch's Road: A concrete culvert, 40 feet by 36 inches, has been laid and concrete wings erected by Mr J. D. Dixon and party. Forming, grading, and sanding have been carried out on other roads in the riding by the surfaceman. PUKEKURA RIDING.

Cambridge to Roto-o-Rangi Road: Forming of deviation at Wallis' has been completed, and same metalled and gravelled. Lee's Culvert: A new reinforced concrete culvert, 22 inches by 5 inches by 5 inches, has been erected by Mr Dixon and party in place of the old wooden structure.

Sanding of Marx's Road has been completed with sand from Peppercorn's pit.

Redoubt Road: New concrete culvert at Benn'is has been stripped and all is ready now for dismantling the old bridge and filling being carried out. Repairs, grading, and surface work have been carried out on various other roads in the riding. RANGIAOHIA RIDING.

Puahue loan works: Hastie's section, 70 chains in length: Metalling of this section has been completed and rolled.

Rolling and blinding of other sections of work are in progress, and I expect to have the whole of the Puahue loan works completed at an early date.

Storey's Road, £1 for £1: Contractor J. Reilly is nearing completion of his contract, which consists of forming 90 chains of 20-foot road.

Long's Road: 394 cubic yards of sand have been carted by our own trucks, and spread, which completes sanding of the unsanded portion. Cooper's Road: A 10-foot-wide sill bridge has been erected on this road. Monckton's Bridge: A 26-foot bridge has been erected over the Mangahoe Stream and approaches made to same. Water-tabling, grading, banking-up metal, and surface work have been carried out on various roads in the riding. ORAKAU RIDING. Great South Road: Te Awamutu to Puniu River Bridge: The contractors have completed scooping of 502 yards of gravel from the Puniu River on to Mr Davies' property, and the gravel has been carted to the main road near Mr Davies' residence.

Tika Road: 33 yards of Puniu gravel have been spread near the junction with the main road. Owairaka Valley Road Grant, £1 for £1: The contractors have completed their contract of carting and delivering 5441 yards of Puniu River gravel, gravelling 4 miles 10 chains of said road. This completes whole of formation, culverting, and metalling of this road, a distance of 6 miles 25 chains.

Kihikihi to Hairini, by Bathurst's Corner: 44 chains of this road have been formed to grades and alignment, and two sets of 9-inch culverts laid. St. Ledger's Road:-Portion of this road has been gravelled with Puniu River gravel, the Council supplying truck for three days and settlers carrying out loading at river and spreading.

Kihikihi to Arapuni Road: Main Highway: The contractor has completed scooping, carting, and stacking a further 200 yards of Puniu River gravel, 100 yards at Parawera, 100 yards near Mr Raine's residence. Allen's Road: 50 yards of Puniu gravel have been used in repair work on this road.

Repairs, grading, and surface work have been done on various roads in the riding. MANGAPIKO RIDING. Ohaupo to Ngahinapouri Road: 83 yards of sand have been spread from Teddy's corner to junction of gor's road. Main Highway, Te Awamutu to Pirongia: 120 yards of sand have been spread on this road. Forkert's Road, off Frontier Road: Portion of this road has been graded and a start made of sanding 30 chains of said road. Grading, water-tabling, banking-up of metal, and general surface work have been done on various roads. KAKEPUKU RIDING. Great South Road, Puniu Bridge to Otorohanga County Boundary: 100 S yards of Puniu gravel have been carted and spread on the road, and 162 yards dumped near Waikeria junction for future maintenance. Main Highway, Te Awamutu to Buxton's Corner: 72 yards of sand have been spread on this road. Water-tabling and banking-up metal have been done on portion of this road, and about 270 yards of Waipa River gravel have been dumped in various heaps ready for maintenance. Budden's Road: The new metal on this road has been rolled and blinded ; with 464 yards of local sand.

Alexander Road: 60 odd chains of metal on this road have been rolled and blinded with 250 yards of local sand.

Te Mawhai to Tokanui: Water-tab-ling and banking-up of metal have been carried out.
