WAIKATO DIOCESE
- CANON HARVIE'S POSITION. RESTORATION OF LICENSE. (By Telegraph — Press Association)HAMILTON, Wednesday. A sensational development in connection with Church of England affairs in the Waikato diocese occurred this evening. A telegram was received by Canon F. G. Harvie from Bishop Cherrington stating that Archbishop Averill and the legal authorities in Wellington had held that Bishop Cherrington's action in cancelling Mr Harvie's license was illegal, and the bishop had therefore withdrawn the cancellation. . , Mr Harvie has accordingly withdrawn the resignation of his seat on General Synod, and expects to leave for Wellington to-morrow evening.
