MEETING OF TE AWAMUTU BRANCH OF N.Z.E.I. The annual meeting of the Te Awamutu branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute was held on Saturday morning, some 20 teachers being present at the Te Awamutu. District High School. The balance-sheet showed that the branch was in a flourishing state financially, but in his annual report the secretary referred to "the. lethargy of many teachers in regard to attendance at meetings, at many of which questions of vital importance to the profession were dealt with." The annual report detailed the, steps which had already'been taken to reorganise this branch and stated that, although attended with very great success, many teachers, by the failure to join up, still failed to appreciate the necessity of presenting a united front in redressing grievances, being content to let the burden of striving to put the profession on a better footing rest with the willing few. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr J. F. Roberts (re-elected); secretary and treasurer, Mr I. F. McDonald (re-elected); delegates to Auckland executive, Mr P. F. Skinner; committee, the above gentlemen, together with Misses Lehndorf, Barr and Linehan, and Messrs Winter and Cox.
Many matters of interest to the profession were discussed and a resolution of confidence in Mr Parkinson (Dominion secretary) was unanimously passed. It was decided to hold meetings in future alternatively at Otorohanga and Te Awamutu, and it was left to the executive- to formulate some scheme by. which the social element could be, introduced into such meetings. ■;■ Mr G.-.H. Stubbs, of Auckland, gave a most interesting address on the work of the Institute and on the Junior High School system.
