RESTORING PARTHENON
FINANCIAL HELP FROM AMERICA
On the initiative of Dr. Knapps, a former American Minister in Athens who was actively backed by Dr. Finle'y, of the "New York Times," and Mr Charles Howl'and, chairman of the Refugee Settlement Commission now lin America, a sut-stan'.'ial sum was collected in the United States for the re-erection of the Parthenon columns which have) lain in ruviis beside the famous tempJe ever since the Venetian general Mbrosini bombarded the Acropolis occupied by the Turks at the end of the seventeenth century.
Archaeologists and lovers of art throughout the world are following with the greatest interest the restoration of the Parthenon, which comrenced'some years ago but which had practically stopped owing to lack, of funds. It is now exported that it will be completed within two years.
