“The 1 most efficient scheme of herdtesting and at the same time the cheapest,” said Mr M. Campbell in the ccarse of his presidential address at the annual meeting of the Dairy Farmers’ Union, “has been established by the members of the union in the Rangiotu district. Herd-testing will not only get rid of the dud cow, hut will eventually also eliminate the scrub hull. It was mentioned at a breeders’ meeting during the Palmerston North Show Week that the scrub pedigree bull wqs a greater menace than the mongrel bull, and with this I quite agree. All pedigree bulls should possess a butter-fat record, which, to my mind, is of greater importance than many of the points which are at present given solely on the appearance of an animal.”
