“ The Government says, ‘ Keep the cradle full,’ hut it doesn’t give a working man much consideration. The Government should give us half a crown a head bonus on our children, and then ,a working m'an could hope to keep a •family decently.” This was a plea made in the Napier Magistrate’s Court by a father of eight children, who said he earned only t£4 per week. 1
