PENNILESS FATHER WALKS 125 MILES. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. In drawing attention to the hardships' caused as a result of married men having to go into the country to obtain 'the relief employment provided by the Public Works Department. Mr F. C. Ellis, one of the Trades Hall representatives on the Cittizens’ Unemployment Committee, stated at a meeting of the committee that a certain man went to a job near Kaikoura, and while he was away two of his children became seriously ill. His wife borrowed money with which to send him a telegram, and the man, having no money for the fare to Christchurch, walked all the way back. “He is here in the city to-day,” Mr, Eljis added. . Kaikoura is 125; miles from Christchurch. ’ .
