! LONDON BUTTER MARKET. NEW ZEALAND PRICE RECEDES. f The London quotations for New Zealand and, Australian butters .show a decrease of 2s to 4s per cwt. New Zealand finest .salted! 'butter is now quoted at 166 s to 168 s per cwt, as against 170 s la:4t week; and this is the second occasion on which New Zealand butter has gone below 170 s. The market is reported depressed. It is difficult to account for the fall and the depression, for importls have been less during each of the past. s months. The imports of butter into the United Kingdom during the past six months and for the corresponding period, of last year are given below:
The figures show a shrinkage of 286,000 cwt, or 14,300 tons, so that the drop cannot be attributed to expanding supplies. It is probable that the spending powers of the consumers are restricted, and they are therefore buying less or it may be that the quantities held in store to maintain values are now being released and are depressing the market. The cheesie market is also depressed, and prices are'about ?Js per cwt lower. Canadian competition has affected the cheese market, and both New Zealand, and. Canadian sorts are at the isame level of values.
FROZEN AND CHILLED MEAT.
SHIPMENTS PROM SOUTH AMERICA. The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board' has received a cablegram, dated Bth July, from its London representative at Buenos Aires, South America, advising the following shipments to the United Kingdom for the fortnight ending Bth July, from Argentina and Uruguay: — Chilled beef, 236,350 quarters; frozen " beef, 9500 quarters; frozen mutton, 36,720 carcases; frozen lamb, 49,132 carcases. The quantity shipped to the Continent of Europe during the same period totalled 104,000 quarters of frozen beef and 5176 carcases of frozen mutton.
