The folowing extract from the engineer's report to the works committee waJs read at the Borough Council meeting on Mdnday evening:— " The sand quarry was visited tc« note the area already worked and the area; also the state the face is now in with clay falling down and making the sand dirty through private men being allowed to root the face anywhere, and through the need of stripping the face back' ahead* of the removal of sand. It was decided by the committee that the Council be recommended to call tenders for stripping the south end of the quarry for a length of about a chain and a half and a width from the face of half a chain. This means the removal- ot about 380 yards of clay and, soil stripping. The best place to tip the spoil is on Mr Taylor's swamp just across the road. Mr Taylor agreels to allow this The cost of the job, including the repair of fences and the road when the work is done, should be about teu, if done when contractors are available. In the interests of the quarry it was noted that the whole face should be stripped back the same distance at a cost of about £IOO, but respect for finance suggested what is here recommended."
