Te Awamutu Borough Council was

held last evening, when there were * present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr L. G. Armstrong), in the chair, and Crs B. McGechie, C. G. Downes, W. J. •North, W. Jeffery, W. Swain, F. H. Vdle, J. C. Montefiore, and J; W. McCarroll. Leave of absence was granted, the too-rough, engineer (Mr W. R. D. McCurdie), vho is a victim of the prevailing epidemic of influenza. It was decided to call Mr C. F. Battson's attention to the "fretting away " of the footpath bdside his business premises in Alexandra Street, and to ask him to effect repairs at once, as the spot is considered dangerous to pedestrians. The Hamilton 'borough solicitors forwarded copy of an application made by the Hamilton Boroujgh Council to > the stipendiary magistrate asking for a hearing of the dispute re the apportionment of heavy traffic license feefe The hearing would be at Hamilton on 4th August.—The question of representation at the hearing was referred to the finance committee, with power to act. Mrs M Rennie, Te Kawa, wrote that on Bth July she had fallen into a pothole in Alexandra Street, in front of Mr F. J. Gilbert's shop, and she asked the Council'to pay the doctor's fees, incurred in treating a badly-sprained ankle.—No action taken, the Council

acknowledging no liability. The solicitors for Mrs E. M. Taylor, ■' Auckland, for war died transfer by way of dedication of a piece of land for a street in her -sub-division, Mutu St. The same firm also forwarded Dr C. F. Blundell's sub-divisional plan for the Council's approval.—(Decided to affix the seal and complete the documents as soon as the .necessary fences, have been removed to their new positions. Mrs H. Y. Collinls. College Street, wrote asking that a footpath be provided giving access from her residence . to one of the three main streets. At present much- inconvenience was caused.—Referred to works committee. The secretary, Te Kawa Quarries, Ltd., offered to supply 1-inch and I§4 inch metal, and would be prepared to accept payment when the Council's loan money is available. The chairman of the works committee recommended acceptance of the offer, pointing out that there was fsure to be difficulty in getting metal supplies during the summer. The Mayor said arrangements had been made to lift the first portion of the £15,000 loan recently arranged for in January next. To buy metal now would mean arranging for tank convenience at a higher rate of interest than tlhe loan money would cost. He thought the works committee could go fully into the matter. Cr Montefiore approved negotiating for a supply of metal now. Cr McCarroll contended that the finer . metal, suitable for concrete work or top-dressing, could be purchased more cheaply. The town clerk presented a sample of the fine metal offered at 2s 6d per yard. Cr Montefiore said it was not a true sample. The matter wals referred to the works committee. It was decided to dispose of the larger grader, a satisfactory offer having been received. The clerk was instructed to write to the Cambridge Borough Council inquiring what area that body intended to have gazetted for its abattoirs district. , „ Cr Downes referred to the need for obtaining the permanent levels of the town. Only in portion of the town were permanent levels defined. The matter had been deferred year after year. He thought the present time opportune. —It was decided to alsk the engineer to report as to the probable cost. Cr Jeffery inquired if the Council was receiving adequate lighting with its street lamps, and suggested that the Power Board he asked if it was complying with its undertaking Agreed to. . u - Three tenders were received for grubbing gorse on the roadside in front of the cemetery.
