C.O.R. TESTING
AMENDING THE RULES At the quarterly meeting of the Taranaki Jersey Council which took place at Kaponga yesterday, the folowing remit was moved by Mr Cornwall, on behalf of the New Plymouth Club: “That the Department of Agriculture be urged to so amend the rules for the C.O.R. testing of purebred cows as to allow' 5 to 7 days after calving before commencing the official test.” The chairman said that at present immediately a cow calved she started under C.O.R. It seemed that a cow should be in full milk before being put under test and five or seven days should be allowed to elapse. A cow did not start off the milking period f Avith a full flow. Mr Cornwall pointed out that in the majority of cases milk had no commercial value for at least five days after the cow calved.
Mr O’Sullivan; in seconding, agreed saying that in America testing did not start for a month after calving. Mr Hunt thought that perhaps it might be a good plan to allow 14 days to elapse at the option of the OAvner, but this suggestion did not find favour Avith the meeting. The remit Avas then carried.
IA further remit from New Plymouth AA r as as follows and was moved by Mr Samson and seconded by Mr Hunt: “That the period of the test be amended to 305 days, the coav to calve Avithin 12 months or 365 days at the option of the applicant; the period desired to he stated at time of entry.”—Carried.
