NEW HALL AT POKUEU

OVER £2OO IN HAND OR PROMISED.

Although the attendance at last night's meeting of settlers in the Ka-| kepu'ku school was not large a very enthusiastic meeting resulted. The meeting was held to further discuss details regarding the erection of a new hall to serve the district, and to receive the report of the finance committee.

Mr E. H. Crawford presided, and he asked the secretary (Mr IH. Fear- to give particulars as to the financial position. (Mr Fear stated that over £2OO had "been promised toy way of donations to help the movement along. Mr T. ICoverdale, of Te Kawa, had written him offering the very handsome donanation of thirty guineas on completion of the hall. The response generally had been wonderful, as in only two instances had financial help been refused.

The secretary's action in writing to Mr Coverdale thanking him for his generous donation was unanimously endorsed ty the meeting.

The fact that the movement has been in operation for only a fortnight, that over £2OO has been promised, the cartage and labour provided by way of voluntary help—all these things speak volumes, for the keen interest and enthusiasm shoiwn hy the residents of the district .in this important matter. The following resolution was carried unanimously: " That a nutolic hall, 24 feet hy 50. feet, 'with an 11-foot stud, he erected when funds are available, an dthat the committee convene another general meeting .before proceeding with the new building." A great deal of detail work was attended to, and among other matters dealt with was a decision to hold a dance in the school next Friday evening to augment the funds, and it is expected that a large attendance will he recorded, as these dan'ces are so popular. The usual compliment to the chair terminated ih emeeting.
