NOMINATIONS CLOSE TO-MORROW
Nominations for the Waipa Racing Club's special meeting which is to be held on Wednesday, 27th May., close to-morrow night. It is expected that the nominations will be large and in view of the big Ellerslie meeting the week following it is more than likely that some of the best jumpers in the Dominion will be raced at Te Awamutu to put the finishing touches on for the more strenuous racing at Ellerslie.
On Tuesday a large number of committeemen were busily engaged at the racecourse erecting jumps on the steeplechase course. Six obstacles have been erected outside the course proper, and comprise battens up to 3ft. high, with about a foot of ti-tree on top. Although not formidable they will provide a good test for the contestants. With the natural grandstand afforded by the hill at the back of the stands a good view will be obtained of the whole course and given fine weather there is little doubt that this vantage point will be more availed of than the grandstand.
