MOTOR VEHICLES ACT

A.few reminders are given to motor vehicle owners of the provisions of the Act.

(1) (Ample time has heen allowed for owners to collect their certificates of registration, annual license, and number plates. Owners who have not collected these from the post office are urged to do so without delay, to avoid possible prosecution.

(2) When an owner sells a vehicle privately or arranges an exchange through a dealer, he must notify the fact on the proper form at the post office, and hand in the registration certificate and annual license for endorsement before delivery to the new owner. Where a dealer takes over a car for re-sale, he also must notify the name of the new owner. While holding such a car he must use dealers' special number plates on it, replacing the original plates on delivering the car to the new owner. A fee of five shillings is charged for the transfer. Neglect of this provision renders the owner or dealer liable to a penalty of ten pounds per day. (3) When a registered motor vehicle is totally destroyed the owner must notify the deputy registrar at whose office the vehicle is registered of the fact, and hand in the certificate of registration and annual license for cancellation. Neglect to give such notice renders the owner liable to a penalty of £lO. Special forms for such notifications are obtainable at the post office.
