AGED MAORI DEAD
GNE HUNDRED YEARS OLD.

The death is announced of Ernie Te Awe Awe, a chieftainess of the Rangitane, Muaupoko, Ngatiapa, Whanganui, Upokoiri, and Hanua tribes. She was the widow of Kerei Te Panau, a noted chief, and sister of four loyal chiefs who were presented by Queen Victoria with a Union Jack. She was of great age, about 100 years, and survived her daughter and a large number of remoter descendants. With her death closes an important chapter in the native history of the West 'Coast.
