MAIN HIGHWAYS

COUNTY COUNCILS MISS ' OPPORTUNITY. WELLINGTON, This Day. At its two days’ meeting, which terminated yesterday, the Main Highways Board expressed the opinion that it did not view with favour the failure of County Councils to take advantage of the Board’s subsidy. During the financial year local authorities have been so slow in making their claims that out of £91,731 authorised for expenditure only £38,715 has been applied for, and paid during the period between June 9th, 1924, and January 31st, 1925. The Board decided to send a circular to local bodies.
