LONG-LIVED FAMILY.
Which family can boast the greatest longevity? Till recently (says the Daily Mail) a family in the Island of Skye claimed to hold the record. In this case seven members of the family had lived to a total of 550 years. Now comes a statement from Mr A. P. le Rossignol, of Jersey, Channel Islands, who asserts that the family history of the Rossignols is easily a record.
Francois le Rossignol, who was horn in Jersey in 1786, died in 1868 at the age of 82. The family record afterwards is as follows:
His son (Francois) died aged 84
His wife (Esther) died aged 84. John (second son) died aged 89. His wife (Nancy) died aged 89. Helier (third son) died aged 70. Peter (fourth son) died aged 76. Mary (eldest daughter) died aged 78. Marguerite (second daughter) died aged 80. Eliza (third daughter) died aged 89. The combined ages of these people total 821 years, or an average of 82 years each. The eldest son, Francois, had three children, who are still alive. They are:— Francis Charles, aged 78. Esther Marie, aged 76. John, aged 68. John, the second son, had two children, who are both living— Frederick, aged SO. Alfred Philip, aged 75.
