NEW COUNTY OFFICES.

TO BE FORMALLY OPENED ON MONDAY. The engineering and clerical staff of the Waipa County Council is now housed in the new County offices, which have been erected in Bank Street, Te Awamutu. For some years past the County’s administrative officers have been located in offices at the local Town Hall buildings, while the County has also maintained offices at Ohaupo (the old centre of the County) where the monthly meetings of Councillors have taken place. While it is not at present intended to abandon the practice of meeting at Ohoupa, the new building has, we learn, been so constructed that a board room can be added without structural alterations. The new premises are substantial, ornate and commodious, being in ferro-concrete, rough cast exterior and plastered interiors. Right opposite the main entrance is the business counter, where ratepayers will be attended to when lodging their dues and making inquiries. To the left of the entrance is the Engineer’s room, lofty ceiled, bright and well-ventilated— really the whole building is a duplicate of this room in those essential aspects. Mr Civil’s staff will be located in a room adjoining. On the other side of the entrance is the Clerk’s office, and it is sufficiently large to permit of County Council committee meetings being held there. Behind Mr Bowden’s room is a commodious strongroom where the official documents, cash and other articles of special value will be in safe keeping. Then there are conveniences and cloakrooms for both sexes. The building is connected to the Borouph sewerage system, is electrically lighted throughout, is connected with the telephone service, and generally the building is a distinct credit to the County Council, the builders and contractors, and all concerned. That it will enable the staff to carry out their exacting work more efficiently and economically seems assured. The building is to be formally opened on Monday afternoon next with a little ceremony, which will be preside'! over by the County chairman, Cr. D. S. Reid.
