ORPHANS’ CLUB.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SOCIAL. Members of the local Orphans’ Club assembled in strong force again on Saturday evening for the usual social, and Vice-President Bro. L. G. Armstrong presided. The company included several visiting Orphans. Before proceeding with the musical programme, Bro. D. F. Mackay said he had been commissioned by the Hamilton Club to hand to the chairman a beau-tifully-chased silver gong with congratulations on the birth of the new club in Te Awamutu. Hamilton welthe new infant, and hoped it would would grow as lusty and useful. as the other members of the family. (Applause.) In accepting custody, Bro. Armstrong said it gave him great pleasure to do so, and as it was intended to use the gong in indicating to entertainers a desire for a repeat item the gift was particuarly appropriate. The Hamilton Club had extended the right hand of fellowship to Te Awamutu, and he hoped that that splendid feeling would always exist. He intimated also that an invitation had been received to visit Hamilton on the 29tih instant, when he hoped there would be a large representation of Te Awamutu Orphans. Such fraternal visits would do much good. The chairman then called upon the orchestra to open the musical programme, a well-ren-dered selection being the result, after which Bro. W. Jeffery contributed a couple of songs in fine style. Other items were contributed by the following: Mr McCarter, a satire on “ Casabianca”; Mr Hey, song and bird imitation; Mr J. Oliphant, songs; or* chestra, selections; Mr iA.E.Patterson; sketch and stories; Mr Hey, comic songs; Air Hazelwood, recitations; 01chestra, march. The Orphans’ supper was dispensed in approved style, and done full justice to. The singing of the National Anthem concluded a very enjoyable evening.
