WORK IN THE BOROUGH.

FOREMAN’S REPORT TO COUNCIL. BY-LAWS DISCUSSED. Reporting to the Te Awamutu Borough Council last night, the foreman (Mr J. Archer) stated that since last meeting the following works had been attended to .'Cleaning of main streets and emptying of all storm-water cesspits in the borough; this had been done each week. The shingling of Kihildhi Road had been continued, and if supplies came regularly to hand the work ought to be completed by the end of the week. Patching with 21inch broken metal had been done in Arawata Street, Puniu Road, Mutu St., Mahoe Street, and Ohaupo Road. He had made a start to open and re-lay a surface water culvert under the Pirongia Road, the pipes of which were full of silt and the water flowing over the roadway, but on account of the continual rain work at present was stopped on it. Water-tables had been cleaned in Mutu Street. Teasdale Stand Bank Street; two culverts were taken up and replaced in Teasdale St. for Mr J. B. Teasdale, he supplying the pipes. Footpaths in Puniu Road, Sloane Street and Carlton Street had been sprinkled with metal chips, and a water service had been placed in Mutu Street for Mr L. ,T. Hooper’s property. The foreman also reported that he noticed that carriers had no number places affixed to their vehicles showing whether they were licensed or not according to the by-law. The same remark applied to taxis and lorries used as motor lorries. The foreman further inquired whether there were any licenses issued for hoardings. Mr Archer drew the Council’s attention to a quantity of earth which had been deposited in W’alton Street without authority having* been given, and recommended that the person be asked to remove the same. A draft copy of new specification in connection with the formation and metalling of new roads proposed to be taken over by the Council accompanied the report. The Council decided that the reading specification go to the works committee before being considered by the Council. The other matters were also referred to the works committee for attention and report, if necessary, to the Council.
