BANK NOTES.

A ( HANOI- TO I*E MADE. UNIFORM SIZE AND COLOUR. Members of the Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce, and business men in general, will be Interested in the following letter published in the Dominion. Wellington: Mr E. T> . Yaldwyn. general manager of the Commercial Bank of Australia, writes as follows on the subject of the style of bank notes issued by the banks doing business in New Zealand: “1 notice in this morning’s issue of the Dominion one of your correspondents adversely criticising the £1 notes of the Commercial Bank of Australia, and objecting to the size being smaUer than that of the other banks; also suggesting a uniform shape and size for £1 notes. “ In this connection 1 would like to say that the banks have been following this matter for some time past, and recently adopted a uniform size and colours for the notes of all the banks trading in New Zealand. The size adopted for the notes of all denominations is the same as the £l. note of the Commercial Bank of Australia, which is practically the same size as the Commonwealth £1 note and recent note issues in England. South Africa, and America.

“It will take a little time for the notes of the present issue to be called in and replaced by the smaller notes, and in the meantime it will be just as well for the public to get used to the Commercial Bank £1 note, as that will be the standard size for all bank notes in the Dominion.”
