After a poor beginning the two Aueklanders, Snedden and Dacre,. carried the score to 164, When the former was caught at mid-on for 58, It was a useful partnership of 110. Dacre equalled his captain's score, but the wickets again fell freely till Bernau , joined Lambert. The latter hit well, but some of Bernau's strokes he knew very little about; he was caught when the score had reached 270, and Snedden then declared the innings closed. This Day. • Auckland secured a creditable win in the Plunket Shield match against Otago, making 363 'in the second innings. Otago had 302 to get, but made a bad start, from which they never recovered, though the tail played well. The total reached only 223, and Otago thus lost by 78 runs. For Auckland Anthony hit 67. Irving 68, Whelan 57, Garrard 30. and Horspool 31. The last two wickets put on 71 runs. Player bowled in his'' old form, taking five wickets for 54. Anthony took three for 64. Otago's best scorers were A. Alloo 52, Mcßeath 31, Dickinson (not out) 26. and Knight 23.
