WELLINGTON'S MEMORIAL.
ESTIMATED TO COST £IO.OOO. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) WELLINGTON. Monday. It is announced by the Wellington Citizens' War Memorial Committee that after giving the matter most careful consideration they have decided upon asking the City Council to grant the site of the old Turkish baths, behind the Roya'l Oak Hotel, as an area on which to erect a citizens' memorial to Wellington fallen soldiers. Upon such site being secured the committee will invite competitive designs for the erection of a monument tbat will conform to tbe present prospective surroundings, and be in every way a fitting tribute to the memory of the 1700 men who fell in the great war from amongst the recruits who went from the city and suburbs. The estimated cost of the memorial is £IO.OOO, towards which £2300 is now available.
