ENTERTAINMENTS.

"THE EXQUISITE THIEF.

Another thrilling " crook play de luxe" is promised in "The Exquisite Thief," a new Universal picture starring Priscilla Dean, which is to be shown at the Empire Theatre on Saturday. 'Miss Dean plays the role of Blue-Jean Billie, a super-crook who preys upon New York's upper social strata. She attends a reception given •bv the Vanderflips in honour of tine betrothal of their daughter to an English society man. When the dinner is at its height she produces a revolver asd becomes the centre of attraction as slhe commands the guests to hand over -every bit of jewellery they wear. Then she disappears, fleeing in an automobile kept waiting by a fellow crook. A tender love story, with Miss Dean and Thurston Hall as the principals,, unfolds from this 'juncture. Thrilling incidents such as an auto smash-up and a violent three-cornered battle (between the police, their "sto'ul pigeons," and the .quarry lend sipice to the story.

" 10,000 M'ILES WITH THE S.Y , SOUTHERN CROSS."

The film to 'be presented at the Empire Theatre on Friday aifternoon and evening 'is unusual and interesting in the extreme. A trip to the Pacific Islands by the ordinary steam route is 'considered, even nowadays, an uncommon one. but to go right through •the unknown and .unfrequented islands of the Solomons is a treat which very

!few .may expect to see. Mr George Tarr may be 'accounted one of the. fortunate, for, in addition to having visited these wonderful places, he has Ibeen able to film some weird and unique slights, which will be reproduced during the visit here. Mr Tarr accompanies his film With a running lecture describing the habits and customs of the people, and adding interest to the entertainment. Special music ihas been selected, and the dances are 'seen to grefat advantage. The vfrsit to the artificial Santa Cruz, Tircopia, and many wild and weird islands around Malaita is a sight not to be passed, land doubtless many will take advantage of this opportunity for a iglimipse into the unknown."
