DANCE AT HAIRINI.

' During the winter montbs a series of dances have been held in the Hairini hall with a dual object in view, that is, to raise funds, to install the electric light in the hall and to provide healthy recreation and amusement for the young people of Hairini and surrounding districts. On Tuesday night last a long night dance was held to celebrate the switching-on of the ulectric light, and wasi attended by people from Te Awamutu, Kihikihi. and other parts Of the district. Unfortunately the wet night prevented some from attending who otherwise would have done so. The "hall was very tastefully decorated for the occasion, and some forty odd couples occupied the floor, which was in slplendid condition for dancing. The music supplied by Mr Dalton was of his usual excellent quality..

During' the evening Mr Pattie on behalf of the residents of Hairini, heartily thanked and congratulated the dance committee on being so successful in attaining their object,, which he said was very much appreciated by everyone in the 'community. He said that where all the members of the committee had worked so assiduously and well, it was exceedingly difficult, to single oitf any particular one for special praise, but he thought they would permit him to specially mention three ladies, viz., Mrs C. Parker. Mrs J. Taylor and Mies Rennie, as they all knew that these ladies had given so much of their time and talents, most generously, unselfishly, and ungrudgingly, in a very worthy cause, and were richly deserving of the hearty thanks of all the residents of the district. After thanking all those- ladiesl who had so generously provided the refreshments for this and all the other dances, he called on Mrs Parker to perform the ceremony of switching on the electric light. This was very gracefully clone amidsft loud applause. About midnight the whole company adjourned to the school-room where a very dainty supper was partaken of and much enjoyed. After supper dancing was aeain indulged in til! three o clock, when everyone went home tired but happy and contented, and all looking forward to the next dance at -Hairini.
