SOCIAL AT OHAUPO.
IN AID OF ST. JOHN’S AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION. (Own Correspondent.) A most successful social was held at Ohaupo in aid of the local branch of St. John’s Ambulance Association, which is raising funds to secure a ■stretcher and outfit for this district. The gathering was a large and representative one, people coming from all parts of the district, with the result that the proceedings were of a thoroughly enjoyable nature throughout. Excellent music was supplied by a jazz band, and 'left nothing to be desired. Vocal items were contributed during the evening, and were much appreciated. A novelty, in the shape of “ balloon waltzing,” was introduced, and caused much interest and amusement. Three couples were successful in finishing the dance with the balloons unbroken. A waltzing competition attracted a good number of entrants, and, when the floor was not unduly crowded by the competitors, presented a pretty spectacle, which was a pleasure to witness, the winners '(Mr F. Cunningham and Mrs Atkinson) giving a particularly graceful exhibition. The stretcher and outfit have now been procured, and are to be placed in a prominent position in the township for use in case of accidents, etc.
