OUTBREAKS OF FIRES.

(By Telegraph. Press Association.) THAMES, Friday. 1 Hoodlums last night made two attempts to cause fires in the town. A large number of mining applications were filed in a porch outside the clerk of the court’s office, and a match was set to these, which burned the paint work and scorched the wood, hut fortunately the fire got no hold of the timber. The other attempt was made in Mr Montague’s phop in Pollen Street and an apron stolen from adjoining premises was set alight and almost succeeded in causing a conflagration, though it resulted only in the scorching 'of curtains. A smell of burning was noticed in good time, and the fire was extinguished.
