FARMERS’ AFFAIRS.

KORAKONUI BRANCH.

(Own Correspondent.)

KORAKONUI, Wednesday.

A meeting of the Korakonui branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held on Thursday last, with a good attendance, for the purpose of electing officers for the ensuing year. Mr J. A. Jamieson was re-elected to the chair and Mr C. McDonald was reelected secretary.

A great deal of discussion arose in connection with the re-organisation of the Union. The Korakonui branch has ! always been financial, and it was carried at the meeting that “We should pay the subscriptions ourselves, and have no levy struck for the payment of subscriptions through any company.” At the same time the meeting approved a levy being made in districts where members were nonfinancial. It was argued that if the working man could be summonsed for his Union subscription, why should not the farmer suffer also. Respecting the Dairy Farmers’ Union, the meeting was against any new union starting that might cause a split in the farming community.
