GENERAL ITEMS. Mr G. W. Bayly draws attention to a cheap dairy farm which he has for sale. In connection with the question of through communication from Kawhia to Otorohanga, Messrs Ormsby Bros., of Te Rau-a-moa have an important notice in this issue intimating that travellers in the King Country can connect with the PirongiaOparau mail coach at the junction of the Pirongia-Otorohanga road. The many friends of Mr and Mrs W. Henderson, of Rangiatea, will regret to hear of the death of their infant daughter. The little one was only 18 months old, and had been suffering from a severe “cold, succumbing on Thursday last. The question to be discussed at the next meeting of the Literary and Debating Society will be “Are Pictures a Benefit or Otherwise to a commun-' ity ?” Thursday evening next is the date, and the gathering will take place as usual at the Presbyterian Hall, commencing at 8 p.m. A general of the Otorohanga sub-branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association is called for this evening at the club-room. As the business to be discussed is to determine the existence of an R.S.A» branch here, it is hoped that members will attend in full numbers. It is to be regretted that our resident medical practitioner, Dr Nicholson is confined to his house owing to trouble connected with his old wund. It is expected, however, that after a few days’ rest he will be able to resume his practice. The weather here has been very cold and frosty for the past week, and heavy showers have bS’en experienced. On Wednesday there appeared to be a heavy electric disturbance all round us, and there were very frequent vivid flashes of lightning in the . evening. Yesterday there was a light fall of snow in the highlands, and the top of Rangitoto retained its white mantle throughout thfe day. The anniversary social of the Temperance Social Circle and Undenominational Bible Class will take place next Wednesday in the Presbyterian Church hall. One and all are invited, and it is expected that there will be a large attendance.
