ENTERTAINMENTS.

PREMIER PICTURES. There was a fair attendance at the local Town Hall on Tuesday, when a splendid series of pictures was screened. Of particular interest were the war scenes, and the programme was, for the most part, devoted to this class of picture. Altogether, it was a splendid programme, and the screening of the pictures was all that could be desired. To-mor-row afternoon and evening, a good programme .will be shown full particulars of which are advertised. EUCHRE SOCIAL. On Wednesday evening a euchre party and social was held at the Town Hall, the proceeds to be devoted in furthering the candidature of Miss L. Lawson, the combined sports' and societies' candidate. There were about 60 persons present, and the evening was most enjoyable. Miss N. Bond was successful in winning the ladies' prize, and Mr W. Groves the gentlemen's prize. The prizes were presented to the successful competitors by Miss Lawson at the conclusion of the games. An adjournment was then made to the supper room, where an excellent supper was provided. Mr O. Price Owen, on behalf of the candidate and the committee thanked those who had contributed to the funds by their attendance, and trusted to have their support on future occasions. Mr Lawson stated he had been approached by other committees and asked to conduct auction sales in support of their respective candidates, and he had agreed to accede to their request. Musical items were played during the evening by Mr N. Winch.

HUGARD AND CHUNG SING LOO. On Friday and Saturday, July 23rd and 24th, a treat is-.in store for Te Awamutu theatre goers. Hugard, the man with the wonderful hands, and his Chinese colleague Chuns Sung Loo, are opening at the Town hail for a season of two nights. These two clever magicians are supported by a specially selected combination of musicians, singers, comedians and jugglers. It is some two years since Hugard appeared here and on that occasion the impression left was so distinctly favourable that it is safe to anticipate a good welcome for this clever artist on his reappearance here. As a slight of hand artist Hugard has no equal. He comes to us in the zenith of his career ; his reputation as a wonder worker has become world wide. A South Island Daily, speaking of Hugard says :—" Hugard is on a plane of his own ; he is the finest card manipulator seen here, and his great bullet-catching act

j must be seen to be believed." ! Ching Sung Loo in presenting I "Night in a Chinese Palace " is I putting forward the biggest and I most gorgeous act of its kind that has toured the Dominion. Amid a gorgeous representation of an Eastern palace, Ching performs all sorts of miracles. The whole act is done without a word being spoken, when watch as you will you cannot see how the miracle? are performed. Amongst the many new magical surprises are the sword levitation, reincarnivation of Phoenix, human valcano, flight of time, etc. Supportingartists include Miss Myra Errington, who is responsible for a really fine musical act, her xylophone playing being specially brilliant. Miss Millie Clare is a charming comedienne, and Clivalli and Dog Sport are Cleveland funny jugglers and balancers. Prices are 3s, 2s, and is. Boxplan is at Spear's.
