THE HENDERSON TRAGEDY.
OPEN VERDICT RETURNED
The coronial inquiry into the circumstances attendant on the burning fatality at Henderson on July 17th, whereby Ellen Ahlgren succumbed to injuries sustained, and in connection with which Alice Sarah Williamson is in custody, was concluded after 5 o'clock last evening. Mrs Williamson, who said her proper name was Lamb, and that she was over sixty years of age, was called as a witness. She definitely denied knowledge of the burning, and while admitting that she, with deceased and "Billy Brown," consumed a little liquor, denied that they were drunk, or that there had been any quarrel between herself and Mrs Ahlgren. She was also positive that she did not relate to Constable McGlone any part of the story that there had been some words, that deceased called her an objectionable name and that she tossed a bucket of water over her neighbour. They were quite friendly when she last saw the deceased. After Mr Cutten had reviewed the evidence, the jury deliberated for a little while, and then returned a verdict that death was clue to shock from burning, but there was no evidence to show in what manner the clothes of deceased became ignited.
