“You fanners are living in a false paradise of high prices,” said the D.O.A. (Mr R. S. Sage) at a bankruptcy meeting at Hawera. “A few years ago you would have been pleased to get Is (id per lb. for your butter-fat; now you are hack to 3s Gd you are whipping the cat.”

At the meeting of the Taumarunui Hospital Board much amusement was caused when the report of prosecutions instituted through the Board’s solicitor was tabled. A correspondent writes to the “Wanganui Herald":—“Another interesting point that will require looking into in connection with the new motor regulations and registration is in connection with those cases cars licensed and registered as private* motor ears, are used hv tradesmen and others to mtrrv loads of timber, iron, pipes, etc* to and from any job their owners are engaged at. It is manifestly unfair to allow a motor car registered as a private car, which pays the minimum fee, to he used largely as a combined car and lorry.” **We are showing a range of cotton crepe de chine with becoming stripes. At yesterday’s meeting of the Napier Harbor Board a letter was received from the Otane Town Board asking to he appointed collector for the Harbor Board’s rates over the Otane town district. Mr Langridge said that the Town Board had more right to collect the rates than the Patangata County Council. The ratepayers were being rated now four times as much ns they were when the Waipawa County Council collected the rate. Mr Chambers said the Patangata County Council struck the rate on the capital value, and they had no power to make a change. An endeavor should he made to have all the Harbor Board rates levied upon the unimproved value. The secretary explained that k would not he legal to make a change as the Town Board was not an independent body, being dependent upon a County Council. It was agreed to write to the Town Board explaining the position. A ear is only as good as the spirit in the tank.
