County Roads.
[TO «[( EDITOR ] Sib,—l with to direct attention to tba method of road making adopted by the Weipawa Oouoty Council aad to eng gest that it should bo improved. The praotioe of dumping rough metal upon roadi with the expectation that traffio will ooniolidate it, ia an antiquated and a ooatly one. More eapeoially ia thia the oass in the anmmer time, when the metal ie aoattered on the aide of the roada. Taka for inatince the part of the road near Mr J. B. A'Deane’s pro. party. It waa recently metalled and now a tender baa been accepted to remetal it. The firat ooating of metal baa been completely aoattered by the traffic That will alao be the fate of the aecond ooating, if it ia apread in the eummer time. What I wonld suggest is that nothing but filling pot holes should be undertaken in the summer time and that only with pulverised metal. In faot nothing bnt crushed metal should be used at any time. If the council were to purohare a toed roller and used orushed metal, the first ooat would probably be greater but in the long run we should have better and cheaper roads. This ia a matter of oonoern to all on the land who have to pay rates for the upkeep of roads, hence my writing on the subject. —I am, etc, Motor l st.
