A Lost Explorer.

[Per Press Association].

Dunedin, Yesterday.

There is every reason to believe that some bones recently found in the Catline district are the remains of Dr Schmidt, who fifty years ago undertook an expedition from Mataura to Molyneux through the bush and disappeared. He was. traced by the late Mr J. H.Jenkinson to within 500 or 600 yards of where the bones have been found. Mr T. MoKenzie, M.H.R., has just paid a visit to the district, to investigate the matter, and is of opinion that the remains are those of Dr Schmidt, but nothing was found to settle the point. He is bringing away some of the remains, to submit to authorities. The rest he and his oompanion, Mr Fleming, of the Clutha Leader , gathered together, and erected a cairn over them.
