HASTINGS.
(OWN CORRKSrONDICNT.) Yesterday a requisition was presented to His Worship the Mayor of Hastings, asking him to communicate with Sir George Grey requesting him to give an address in the Hasting’s Town Hall. The iequisition was largely signed, as it was taken from door to door by a couple of, 1 suppose persons who call themselves Liberals. Hastings at the present time is a capital field for a mau of the O’ Desmond’s stamp. There is a large number of the unemployed to bo found hanging around the towuship, who if they had a vote, would give it for the meanest trifle, or who would enlist under the Danner of an army one who could do a bit of tall talking. If Sir George Grey does speak here he will get a large audience, but his speaking here will now make a lot of difference to the remote chances of success a certain candidate lias for parli mentary honours. The Ilasting’s Liberal like their Napier brethren are a very bilious lot, they turn quite sick when the gav.io is “ ante up.”
