A Fashionable Call.
Ik there is any one thing a fashionable lady does really enjoy it is to to make a formal call on some other fashionable lady and find her out. A few days ago an elegantlydressed _ lady emerged proudly from
a carriage, and called *at one of the stateliest mansions at the West End, in front of which the lady’s son was playing. " Your ma is not in ” said the visitor, in a confident tone of voice. " Oh, yes, she is ; she is in the drawing-room.” " I thought she always went out to take a aide about this time in the afternoon, replied the lady, in a disappointed tone of voice; and an expression of horror and disgust flitted over her move antique features. "I believe she would have been out if you had let her know you were coming, and had given her a chance to be absent. I heard her say so the other day lo pa ” Just at this moment the lady of the house came out. They rushed towards each other’s arms like two colliding locomotives—smack on both sides, and in the middle. " Yum, yum, yum, how glad 1 am—yum, yum—to see you ! \ ou naughty thing, you haven’t been to see me for an age—smack, yum. Now come into the house and make yourself at home. How are your dear children ? Ido think they are the most charming little cherubs,” etc., etc., ad nauseam.
