LATEST POLITICAL NEWS.

[By Telegraph.] Wellington, August 18. There is no intention to delay business | longer than to-morrow. Mr McKenzie ' will give notice of the Address-in-Reply. It is uncertain as I write, whether an amendment to the Address will be given notice of to-morrow or not. There is a rumour about Mr Ormond opposing the Ministry after all ; and there is more than mere rumour in it, if the policy of the Government does not please him. The proposal to call Mr Sheehan to the Council has fallen through, but was seriously entertained at one time. I am inclined te believe that Government grows stronger daily, but people are waiting to hear what they have to say for themselves. Major Atkinson is not keen to oust the new Government, and considers with many others that it would be bad policy to do so. Mr Bracken, it was said, was to be Mr Stout’s private Secretary, but there was nothing in it. Ministers have been in cabinet a long time to-day, but of course they take care that nothing is known of what is done. Mr Stout paid for the steamer that brought him from Lyttelton here. The cost was not charged to the country as at first stated. Mr W. J. Harker went South this afternoon. Mr Wakefield is spoken of as intending to move a want of confidence-motion. If moved, Vogel’s following will sensibly diminish, as the Cabinet measures are unfolded. Wall an ui comes to town to-morrow. Ex Judge Fenton is here to watch legislation for the interests of the Rotorua Railway Company, and other northern undertakings.
