Monavale Fatality
WELL-KNOWN RESIDENT DIES IN HOSPITAL A most unfortunate accident occurred at the farm of Mr Fred. Williamson, Monavale, on Thursday afternoon when as the result of being heavily struck on the head bv the limb of a tree, Mr Edward John Pentelow, 37, single, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs J. -W« Pentelow, also of Monavale, died in the Waikato Hospital in the early hours of Friday morning. At the time of the accident Mr Pentelow was engaged in lopping branches from blue-gum trees and associated with him were his brother, .Roger Pentelow and Mervyn Williamson, son of the owner of the property. The branches were extending too far into a paddock. The deceased was in the act of lopping off a long limb which had a considerable amount of foliage at the end. The limb was about four feet from the ground. When the limb was chopped through it flew back, being caught by another branch. The deceased was struck on the head and he fell to the ground unconscious. After a time he regained consciousness. Mervyn Williamson ran to the residence and procured a car while Mrs Williamson notified Dr. L. F. Johnson. After being examined the injured man- was taken to .the Waikato Hospital where he passed away at 3.30 on Friday morning. The late Edward John Pentelow was born in Taranaki and was educated in that province. He was working at the Monavale dairy, factory for some years, but on account of his health, he took up outdoor work about 12 months ago. Deceased was formerly a member of the flautapu Football Club and was an enthusiastic sportsman. He is survived by his parents, five brothers and three sisters. They are Messrs Philip Pentelow, Thomas Pentelow (Taranaki), Dudley Roger and Bernard (Cambridge); Mesdames Yates (Frankton), G. Entwistle and Miss Pentelow (Monavale).
The sympathy of a large circle of friends and acquaintances will be extended to the relatives.
