MAN AND HIS WORLD
DR. MAINWARING’S BOOK NO CONTROVERSY IN ENGLAND A few weeks ago an article appeared id one of the Metropolitan dailies, and written by Bishop Liston, of Auckland. In this article he strongly urged that the book “Man And . His World,” be not used in schools, as its teachings were not in accordance with Christian ideals and teachings.
The Vicar, the Rev. Canon C. W. Chandler recently cabled the publishers of Dr. Mainwaring’s famous book. In the cable he mentioned the apparent widespread controversy raging in New Zealand over the book, and he was curious to know if this controversy also applied to Britain. He also asked if the book was used extensively in English schools.
The reply to his cable reached him yesterday and read as follows: “Man And His World” selling well here. Have no knowledge of any controversy England or elsewhere. The cable was signed: George Phillip. The much discussed book, by the way, had been added to the list of books containing good reading, in the library of St. Andrew’s Church.
