ONE-DAY SHOW
PROVED TO BE SATISFACTORY ASSOCIATION REVIEWS YEAR The satisfactory result which attended the move >of tne Waikato Central Agricultural Association to hold a one-day show this year, is * contained in the report to be presented by the president, Mr H. J. Crowther, at the annual meeting next Friday afternoon. For many years the association has held a two-day show, but the decision to hold a one-day fixture was made in view of the war conditions and the shortage of petrol. This was much appreciated by'the numerous competitors, who were nearly all able to exhibit their stock and reach home the same day. ' ; Run to Schedule
There were large entries in all classes of stock, which were of the usual high quality, states the report. With the judging and the parade on the one day, the stewards in the various sections were kept very busy. However, everything was run ■off to schedule, and the opinion was freely expressed that the one-day show was a decided, success. The only vital deletion in the programme was the Sheep Dog Trials. This important event was run off at a gymkhana, which was held later in the month.
Extra facilities were provided for the washing of stock by the construction of two new washing-down slabs in a more convenient position. These were much appreciation by exhibitors. In this connection the committee was indebted to tjie Cambridge Trotting Club /for generous assistance, in providing the whole of the, materials. The labour was prhvided by a willing tvorking bee. • Valuable Trophies T]he association was fortunate 'in having allotted to its last show the Union S.S. Company’s Cup, and the Clydesdale Horse Society, of Great Britain Silver Medal, for the best mare or filly, two years or over/ This was won by ME W. C. Wallace. The association was also allotted the N.Z. Ayrshire Breeders’ Shield for most points in th'e Ayrshire -section. This was won by Mr P. Beverley. The Polo Club allowed the association the Tree use of their hot 1 water system, thus providing an extra supply for patrons at that side of the grounds. This was much appreciated. .An innovation was the use of woollen ribbons. These were very attractive. The cost yvas more than the ordinary ribbons, which are now unprocurable. » A gymkhana, in aid of the show funds was held on 15th March. This was poorly attended, but through the generosity of many of the competitors who refunded their prizemoney, the fixture resulted in a net profit of about £27. Profit for Year
The receipts and expenditure ac-
count showed a net profit for the year Of £65 8/1. This was realised on the gpheral account, the' shbWi account showing a small loss. Whiiej not large, ths profit, was considered ditions. i 1
The thanks of the , association ■were extended to the, .many loyal ■workers who..did. sq pnich to make the ; annpal sho,w a success. Alsor to those generous, , people. who each year give use of, their paddocks for holding show stock, and the public for ,<heir generous'support.
