SOLDIER'S CLUB

• RAISING OF THE FINANCE ARRANGING FOR CAMPAIGN Good progress with the preliminary arrangements in connection with' the. raising of finance for the establishment of a Returned Soldier's Club in Cambridge was reported at a meeting of the committee on Friday afternoon. The scheme being sponsored by the Returned .Soldier's Association for the purpose of acquiring a suitable property in Cambridge to provide local men on their return from overseas with well-equipped and comfortable social rooms.

The Association has under, offer a building suitably planned with library, billiard and social rooms, and to raise funds it has been decided to institute a stock drive among the farming community, to make a personal appeal to tlft citizens of the Cambridge Borough, Leamington Town District, and to hold a Military Ball and a Gymkhana. Members of the Returned Soldier's Association are of the opinion that the public of the district can show appreciation in a practical manner by subscribing to this very worthy object, and thus provide an establishment where the soldiers can meet on their return and pass many pleasant hours, instead of meeting in other places. It is pointed out that the consumption of liquor in the club will be strictly prohibited. Sub-committees have their plans well in hand for launching the appeals at an early date. The Military Ball will be held on September 11.
