MAORI LORE
HELD IN HIGH RESPECT SIR HARRY BATTERBEE “I have come to hold a high resioner for the United Kingdom, at Harry Batterbee, the High Commissioner for the United ingdom, at New Plymouth. “On my trip down, in company with Mr Mcßride, the representative of the Australian Cabinet at the Centenary celebrations, I visited the Maori settlement at Horohoro. We were told that if we -were really distinguished the sun would not be visible and the heavens would weep on our arrival. “However, we were informed that if we pick certain leaves and place them in a certain position, the weather would clear up. We did as we were instructed and sure the weather acted accordingly. So,” Sir Harry concluded, “I have some grounds for respecting the Maori lore.”
