NO SPORTS THIS YEAR

KAIPAKI ATHLETIC CLUB DECISION OF COMMITTEE A meeting was held at Kaipaki on Wednesday evening by the executive of the Kaipaki Sports Club, to discuss the holding of another amateur athletic sports meeting this year. Mr R. Boyd, president, was in the chair, and other members present were, Mr C. Speake, manager; Mr W. Ganley, vice-presi-dent; Mr R. Speake, secretary; Mr A. M. Fisher, assistant secretary, and Mrs A. Goodwin, treasurer. The subject was gone into very thoroughly and looked at from various points of view, but considering the unsettled conditions overseas, together with benzine and other local restrictions, it was decided not to run a meeting this year. The executive were very reluctant to come to this decision, taking into consideration the excellent results of the initial meeting last year

and also that since then much more had been done to the sports ground to bring it up-to-date. The whole area has been ploughed, levelled, turfed and banked, and by another year there will be an excellent running and cycling track. The executive are very optimistic that by 1941 the position will be such that a successful meeting may-’ be held.
